for sale is a magnificent Victorian natural pearl, amethyst and enamel
18K gold brooch.
This piece from the late
1880's is in very good condition and even today it is on a level of a
master piece.
The center of this brooch
is a large size amethyst which was used to set natural pearls into, this
is very uncommon and takes a lot of ingenuity to carve into the amethyst
without breaking it, even today only a few companies can achieve such
work.
The rest of the piece is
set with cushion cut amethyst and natural untreated pearls.
The total amethyst weight
is estimated to be well over 11.00 carats and they are all natural
untreated old cut stones.
The pearls in this piece
look like they are all salt water natural untreated pearls, these pearls
are more rare then the regular cultured pearls plus these pearls are
very old like the rest of the piece. The pearls measure approximately
3.5mm each on the outside and 2.0mm on the amethyst.
The rest of the piece has
beautiful enamel work in black and white plus the finish on some parts
of the gold is very detailed, even finer the most filigree work...I hope
the pictures can show these fine details.
This piece is all 18K
yellow gold, it measures approximately 35mm from side to side and it
weighs 15 grams.
